# Dilma diz que MST não é 'caso de polícia'

A presidente eleita, Dilma Rousseff, disse hoje que não tratará o Movimento dos Sem Terra (MST) como "caso de polícia". Em conversa com jornalistas, em Brasília, ela ainda alfinetou os tucanos ao fazer referência ao chamado "massacre de Carajás", de 1996, quando 19 militantes do MST foram mortos em Eldorado dos Carajás por tropas da Polícia Militar (PM) do governo do Estado do Pará, à época sob administração do PSDB. "Não darei margem para um Eldorado dos Carajás", afirmou Dilma. "Agora, eu não compactuo com ilegalidades, nem com invasão de prédios públicos e propriedades produtivamente administradas", disse.

Na entrevista, Dilma evitou comentar sobre a adoção de um índice de produtividade, limitando-se a dizer que o presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva pediu à Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) um estudo técnico sobre o tema. "Eu vou avaliar", disse.

Dilma afirmou que o País tem terras suficientes para fazer uma reforma agrária e destacou que pretende manter e reforçar ações do atual governo para incentivar pequenos agricultores e assentados. "É fundamental garantir aos assentados uma renda monetária. Temos de fazer uma revolução no campo para transformar os assentados em proprietários", disse, completando: "Para resolver o problema dos sem terra é preciso criar milhões de pequenos proprietários".

A presidente eleita ressaltou a importância da agricultura familiar para produção de alimentos e disse que "é preciso que o tecido social no setor rural seja cada vez mais democrático". "Agora, para isso, o pequeno produtor tem de ter renda e perceber a melhoria devida", disse

Uma overdose de remédios pode ter causado a morte de Andy Irons. A suspeita foi levantada nesta quarta-feira pelo Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, laboratório responsável pela autópsia do surfista. Cápsulas de metadona, substância que tem efeitos similares ao da morfina, foram encontradas ao lado do corpo do norte-americano.

Irons, 32 anos, foi encontrado morto na terça-feira no quarto de um hotel em Dallas, nos Estados Unidos. Ele foi diagnosticado com dengue, e estaria utilizando o medicamento para combater as dores causadas pela doença. O resultado final da autópsia será divulgado dentro de dois ou três meses.

Andy Irons teria sido picado pelo mosquito da dengue durante uma competição em Portugal. Ele seguiu para Porto Rico, mas não conseguiu competir por estar passando mal. Decidiu retornar para o Havaí, mas, sentindo-se mal, resolveu passar uma noite em Dallas, quando foi encontrado morto.

Após a notícia da morte de Irons, a Associação de Surfistas Profissionais (ASP, na sigla em inglês) suspendeu as atividades em Porto Rico.

A Justiça do Rio de Janeiro aumentou de R$ 50 mil para R$ 100 mil o valor da indenização que a Gol Linhas Aéreas terá de pagar por danos morais para cada uma das irmãs Kelvia Lopes, Keyla Lopes e Fernanda Gonçalves Lopes, pela morte de Marcelo Lopes durante o acidente com o jato Legacy, em 2006, no trecho entre Manaus e Rio de Janeiro. A decisão é do dia 29 de setembro, mas só foi divulgada hoje.

Na ocasião, os 154 passageiros do voo 1907 da empresa morreram. A relatora da decisão, desembargadora Mônica Tolledo de Oliveira, reformulou a decisão dos desembargadores da 4ª Câmara Cível do Tribunal de Justiça do Rio (TJ-RJ), que fixaram o valor da condenação em R$ 50 mil.

"Diante de um evento danoso de grande magnitude tal qual a morte da vítima no acidente aéreo, cada pessoa a ela relacionada, pelos mais diferentes vínculos afetivos (familiares, amigos, colegas de trabalho, etc), pode sofrer uma lesão ao seu direito da personalidade manifestado pela perda da sua convivência", disse a magistrada.

Indonesia's volcano re-erupts, more people evacuated

SLEMAN, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Volcano in Central Java of Indonesia re-erupted on Wednesday afternoon, the strongest since last week, unleashing hot ash continuously for more than one hour by up to 10 kilometers and forcing authorities to extend dangerous zone which lead to the evacuation of over thousands of people, officials said.

Mount Merapi of 2,968 meters high exploded from 14:00 p.m. Jakarta time (0700 GMT) to 16:20 p.m. Jakarta time (0920 GMT), volcanology agency extended dangerous zone from 10 kilometers to 15 kilometers, official at the Volcanology Agency in Yogyakarta named only Ismail told Xinhua.

Head of the agency who goes with single name Surono told a local television that the spewing of hot ash for more than one hour had been rare, indicating the worst situation so far. "Mount Merapi has entered crisis period," he said. Ismail said that the hot ash spread to southern but its height could be confirm due to heavy clouds.

National Disaster Management Agency spokesperson Nelis Zuliasri said that there were 733,335 people in the radius of 15 kilometers from the volcano.

The figure included those have already taken shelters from the area of 10 kilometers from the mount, he said. "The area in the radius of 15 kilometers must be sterilized, all the people must leave," she told Xinhua by phone from Jakarta. "All our strength, including soldiers, police, volunteers and authorities must be deployed to displace all the persons," said Zuliastri.

In Pakem sub-district of Sleman district, residents were panic, many of them left the area under the rains, and some others searched those still stay at the radius of 10 kilometers or near the area for evacuation.

"We will ask those still stay in the radius of 10 to 15 kilometers to leave the area," coordinator at cording post for Sleman district Taupik Wahyudi told Xinhua.

Previously, the residents have left the area at the radius of 10 kilometers and taken shelters near the area, and they regularly return to their homes at the dangerous zones to take care their cattle.

The Merapi volcano first erupted on Oct. 26.

Mount Merapi is one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes. The Southeast Asian country lies in a quake-prone zone called the Pacific Ring of Fire, and now has 129 active volcanoes.

The previous eruption of Mount Merapi in 2006 killed two people. A 1994 eruption claimed 60 people's lives. A major eruption in 1930 killed more than 1,000 people.

Russia, Japan, U.S., Brazil lead way to second round of volley worlds

OSAKA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Led by unbeaten Russia, Japan, the United States and Brazil, 16 teams have made the next round of the women's volleyball world championships as the group stage concluded Wednesday.

Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Thailand, Peru and Cuba joined defending champions Russia, World Grand Prix title holders the United States, Olympic champions Brazil, as well as the hosts Japan, Italy, Serbia, South Korea, Poland, Germany, China and Turkey who've already confirmed their second round places.

Russia extended their unstoppable winning streak by defeating China 3-0 in Pool D in Osaka Municipal City Gymnasium Wednesday.

The defending champions were faced with quick and powerful attack from Athens Olympic champions China in the first set and did not control it until the last a few minutes. They won the set 25-22.

They almost dominated the next two sets, though confronting stronger attack from their opponents.

Russian coach Kuzyutkin Vladimir commented after the match that his team had acquired the maximum points thanks to effective blocking and attacks.

Hosts Japan finished on top of Pool A after winning the crucial clash with Serbia 28-26, 29-27, 18-25, 27-25. Ace spiker Saori Kimura led the way for Japan with 27 points.

Earlier, Peru booked the fourth and final berth in Pool A after a well-worked 3-1 win over Costa Rica.

"Today we had a clear objective - to win and qualify for the second round," Peru coach Kim Cheol Yong said. "That's why we were a little nervous, but I'm pleased with our result. We know more difficult matches will come in the second round."

In Pool B, World No. 1 team Brazil finished the first round in fine form with five wins after overpowering World Grand Champions Cup title holders and world No. 4 Italy 3-0 in the final match of the group.

"It wasn't a perfect match, but almost," Brazil coach Jose Guimaraes said. "Of course I'm very happy with my team. We did very good work in serving, defence, blocking and counter-attack. "

Netherlands and the Czech Republic confirmed the other two knockout round places with straight-sets victories over Puerto Rico and Kenya respectively.
